Food For Thought
".... She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to he maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it; with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good; her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlett......She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed;
Proverbs 31:13-21, 27-28.
By definition, a mother is a female parent. However, a mother may also be defined as something regarded as a source. One who takes the role of mothering seriously would fit such a definition. While Proverbs 31 speaks of what it refers to as a virtuous woman, it well shows characteristics of a good mother. As we read Proverbs 31, it may seem that this woman is overworked and so busy, one may wonder how things get done. Mothers though, somehow have 'uncanny' powers. They seem to do the impossible. They are like super beings with super powers. A lot of what we see in Proverbs 31 are behaviours that seem to come naturally with mothers. They seem to automatically do stuff that when one looks back, one may just be amazed. So here is a 'SHOUT OUT' to all the mothers. (I hope I used that phrase appropriately.)
A happy Mother's Day to all readers who are mothers. Enjoy your day. Motherhood is a gift from God. Know that you are blessed. I think of Sarah, Abrahams wife, who was blessed with motherhood in her old age. I think of Hannah who was blessed with motherhood and used the offspring to bless God back. There are other special mothers in the Bible like Mary and Elizabeth. Know that you are special.
Be blessed.
